I have been teaching since 1988, when I began teaching advanced physics and math preparatory courses for high-school seniors at the Ural State University, in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
My teaching philosophy developed as a by-product of being both a student and a teacher. As a teacher, I learned from tutoring and mentoring both my own children and a diverse body of elementary, middle, and high school, and college students. From my experience, I gleaned that every student must first and foremost be respected as a person. I implement various teaching methods in a single class to keep students engaged and appeal to variety of learning styles. I believe that my responsibility as a teacher is to design supportive environments and personalized experiences that enable students to construct their own knowledge.
It is satisfying to know that I can perhaps do something valuable and profound. My goal as a science and math teacher is to help students discover the beauty of the world around them and the wonderful logic of numbers.
